If you are looking for a wedding dress in the Inner West, Catherine Colubriale Couture designs and makes bridal gowns by hand in our Dulwich Hill atelier on New Canterbury Road. Where is the atelier?
We are at 422 New Canterbury Road, Dulwich Hill NSW 2203, in the heart of Sydney’s Inner West. Dulwich Hill is served by the light rail and train. Appointments are private and by booking only: Tuesday to Friday 10am to 5pm, and Saturday 10am to 3pm.
If you are searching for bridal shops in Leichhardt, Marrickville, Petersham, Lewisham, Summer Hill, Ashfield, Canterbury or Hurlstone Park, our atelier is a neighbour to all of them. We are not in Leichhardt itself, but Dulwich Hill is part of the same Inner West community, and it has been home to the atelier since the house moved from its earlier boutique on Oxford Street, Paddington.
Catherine’s roots in Sydney go back a long way. She opened her first atelier in Kingsgrove at twenty-one, and the house has received a Local Business Achievement Award from Marrickville Council.
What can I have made here?
Everything we make is designed, cut and sewn in the Dulwich Hill atelier. There are two ways to a wedding gown, and they suit different brides.
- Bespoke. Catherine designs your gown with you from a blank page: a hand-drawn sketch, fabric chosen together, a toile cut to your measurements and three to five fittings. Bridal gowns start from $3,500 and take six to twelve months. Read more about custom made wedding dresses.
- Made to order. The four white gowns of our Bridal Couture Collection, first shown at New York Fashion Week in September 2026, are made to your measurements in four to six weeks. They are quoted at your consultation.
We also make mother of the bride and groom gowns, bridesmaids and flower girls, custom veils and evening gowns, so a whole wedding party can be dressed from one atelier. Alexandra’s family chose us for her entire bridal party.
Why choose a designer close to home?
A bespoke gown is built over several visits, so where the atelier sits in your week matters more than it does when you buy a dress in one afternoon. For brides who live or work in the Inner West, a fitting can fit around a lunch break, a Saturday morning or the way home.
Being close also helps when life changes before the wedding. We have dressed many brides through weight changes and pregnancy, including Belinda, whose lace gown fell softly over her baby bump. Fittings can be timed to how your body is changing.
Then there is the wedding morning. Catherine offers a wedding morning dressing service, helping you into your gown and checking every detail before you leave.
How many visits will I make?
For a bespoke gown, plan on these appointments:
| Visit | What happens |
|---|---|
| Consultation | Champagne or coffee, a conversation about your wedding, and Catherine’s first ideas |
| Design and fabric | Your hand-drawn sketch, and silks and laces chosen together |
| Toile fitting | A test gown cut to your measurements, so the shape is right before your fabric is cut |
| Fittings | Three to five in total, as your gown is built and refined on you |
| Collection | Your gown is finished two weeks before the wedding |
A Collection gown is made to order to your measurements in four to six weeks, and we will explain the appointments involved at your consultation. Our guide to wedding dress fittings explains what each one is for.
Bridal shop or atelier: which suits you?
The Inner West has bridal shops as well as our atelier, and they offer different things. Be honest with yourself about what you want from the experience.
| You want | Better suited to |
|---|---|
| To try on many finished dresses in one afternoon | A bridal shop |
| A dress to take home within weeks, at a lower budget than $3,500 | A bridal shop |
| A gown nobody else will wear, designed with you | Our bespoke service |
| A runway design made to your measurements in four to six weeks | Our Bridal Couture Collection |
| Matching gowns for your mother, bridesmaids and flower girls | Our atelier |
If you are unsure which route is right, our guide to bespoke, made to order and off the rack sets out the trade-offs.
