A custom made princess ball gown wedding dress
What a story with my beautiful bride Taharna. I met Taharna through her mother Bronwyn who is a very special client of mine. I have been making her mother’s dresses for a few years now.
At one of the fittings that I was working on Bronwyn’s dress, Taharna and I discussed her future wedding gown for when her wedding day presented itself…… And the fairy tale began with a surprise proposal from her handsome man. I received the call to start designing her engagement dress. “How exciting!”
I created a gold Sequin fitted bodice dress that was attached to a pencil skirt emphasising her style. This gold sequin dress was fun, sexy and elegant which totally complimented her positive and playful personality. We went on to create a yellow bridal shower dress that was beautifully complementing her floral and elegant theme.
After the bridal shower, we got together for a long appointment that was over a couple of coffees, croissants and strawberry tarts. This is the moment! Tarhana’s big day had finally arrived and I was honoured to be part of the creative vision. I now could take all her hopes and dreams for the wedding and bring them to reality.
I took out the sketch pad and off we went. The creative process began as we walked through the steps in creating the whole bridal party. This included;
- The wedding Gown
- The mother of the bride
- 5 x bridesmaids
- 5 x flower girls
- The mother of the groom.
The Custom Couture wedding gown and bridal party process was so much fun. Tarhana’s dress was designed, created and styled to her uniqueness. Her wedding gown was made to look like a princess ball gown with a cathedral length train for the church ceremony and left all her guests amazed when she showed up at her reception with her detachable ball gown skirt removed and she was left with her fully beaded sexy gown to dance the night away with her beautiful husband, family and friends.

“My mum and I went to see Catherine to design my couture wedding gown. At first I was apprehensive about getting a dress made but my mum already had a few dresses made by Catherine for my brother’s weddings and they were amazing! When I met beautiful Catherine I felt so comfortable and blessed that I had met her when I did.

By the end of our journey Catherine became family to us and both my mum and I were so sad that our regular fittings were coming to an end.

What is the benefit of a detachable ball gown skirt?
One of the biggest challenges any bride faces when designing her wedding dress or bridal gown is whether to wear the same garment for the whole day or have two outfits, one for the ceremony & another one for the reception.
One of the solutions to this is to create a custom made dress that includes a detachable element so the dress can be ‘converted’ when you move from one location to another.
It is the perfect way to have a full-length train for the ceremony but then enjoy yourself at the reception with the freedom of a normal dress.
What is a custom made wedding dress?
A custom made piece of clothing is designed so that it is the same size and shape as your body. It can emphasise all of your elegant features perfectly. In this example it was also created with a skirt that could be detached.
